A Natural Solution to Treating Bursitis

What is Bursitis?
Bursitis is a painful condition caused by inflammation of the Bursa. Bursae are fluid-filled sacs located between 2 structures, usually muscles, tendons or bones that help to reduce friction between joints and assist in movement. The most commonly affected areas are the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Bursitis may build up gradually or can come on suddenly and severely. Left untreated, it can lead to other conditions such as frozen shoulder.
What causes Bursitis?
- Repetitive strain on the joint
- Injury
- Poor stretching or condition prior to exercise
- Incorrect posture
- Some medical conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout or thyroid disorders
- More common in people over 40 years – with age our bodies are less elastic and tolerant to stress and more vulnerable to tears.
Suggested treatment options for Bursitis include:
- Rest
- Avoiding activities that can aggravate the condition
- Anti-inflammatory medication (research has found that long term use can have detrimental effects)
- Cortisone injections
- Surgery (rare but sometimes resorted to when an individual is not responding to other types of treatment)
